Demand vote on Mobility Package 1 now

Date: 06, March 2019
Almost two years after the publication of the first Mobility Package and a well-balanced general approach by Council in December 2018 eight associations defending the interest of road haulage companies are demanding a vote in the European Parliament.

The eight associations are Fédération Nationale des Transports Routiers (FNTR), Nordic Logistic Association (NLA), SKAL (Finnish Transport and Logistics), ALT (Finnish Employers´ Federation of Road Transport), Swedish Association of Road Transport Companies (SÅ), Norwegian Road Transport Association (NLF), Danish Transport and Logistics (DTL) and Bundesverband Güterkraftverkehr Logistik und Entsorgung (BGL) e.V.

Years of thorough discussions in the European Parliament on the market and social aspects of Mobility Package 1 were enough time to discuss all the complex issues and options to find a solution to the problems of the road haulage market. Further discussions will not reveal more options.

20 years after the liberalization of the European transport policy, the European Union must find an answer for ongoing market failure and deteriorating social conditions for drivers.  An agreement on the Mobility package would for example allow for better enforcement through a faster introduction of the new tachograph and for better social conditions of drivers.

Our road haulage companies are asking for progress before the end of legislation in order to defend a level playing field in road haulage through the 27 EU Member States. We need a true European solution now to replace the different national approaches adopted over the past years which make our business become unnecessarily complicated”.
