French law on social dumping - Weekly rest in the cabin
Included in these laws is the provision on preventing weekly rest in the drivers cabin in France. Mr Savary could confirm that the details on the pratical application of the law will be published in December 2014 and it will be applied from January 1, 2015.
Mr. Savary was very clear to point out that this is not about prevent someone from driving in France. These steps have been taken by the French government in order to combat social dumping. It is an attempt to solve the problems with drivers that have to live weeks and weeks in their trucks. Mr. Savary emphasized that to allow French operator to continue to operate on equal terms with the other fleet operators, something must be done. Banning weekly rest in the trucks is a way of trying to come to solve the problem of social dumping and unfair competition.
Mr Savary was also very focused on getting the posting of workers directive to work for road transport. He underlined that these new initiatives from the French government were within the framework of the new directive on enforcing the rules of the posting of workers directive.
