Support for minimum wage - also for road transport but some confusion among the MEPs on what applies where

The European Parliament had on the evening of Wednesday (25/3) a long debate on German minimum wage and road transport. The debate was based on a question to the Commission from the Employment Committee of the Parliament. Introducing the question, MEP Marita Ulvskog (Sweden, S&D) made it clear, that what is happening on the roads of the EU lacks dignity and respect for the people who are driving the trucks. 


Energy Union Package

25. February the Commission decided on a European energy union package. In ensuring sustainable energy supply through harmonization and consolidation of the 28 energy markets, the package seeks to provide cheaper energy to EU’s citizens and businesses and improving the energy supply – chain. With regards the transport industry, the package will accelerate in making transport more efficient and less a burden for the climate. In order to reach this goal, actions are drawn up. With reference to the upcoming road transport package, the Commission emphasize taxes for use of infrastructure, better use of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) such as efficient route calculations, and demand for energy efficient and clean vehicles

The transport committee of the European Parliament voted on the 24 of February in favour of the compromise made between the European parliament and the Council of the European Union, on the revision of the weights and dimensions directive.
